Welcome to the blog for the Mission Mexico 2008 trip for the team from Buncombe Street, Covenant and St Matthew UMC to Ozumba, MX. !
Our trip dates are from July 19 through 26. Our team consists of 13 members; rising high school seniors, rising college seniors, musicians, dentists, engineers, financial specialists.... all walks of life.
The planning began last Fall and the team began to take shape in early March. Once the team members were determined, the next task was to begin raising $1400 per person. Included in the total is airfare to Mexico City; food & housing for the week; VBS, construction and dental supplies; and ground transportation.
Our main fund raiser was a Mexican Fiesta on Sunday May 4 after the 11 o'clock service at Covenant. The Fiesta and Silent Auction were a success ! We were entertained by a troupe of Mexican dancers, the kids enjoyed pinatas and the adults were kept busy with a silent auction. Thanks again to everyone who helped make the Fiesta a success!
Now we are busy preparing for our trip. We have chosen our VBS theme, "Avalanche Ranch". It is one of the few that is available in a bi-lingual format. We are finding craft projects and snacks for our VBS participants. Dental supplies are being acquired and excitement is beginning to rise! We will purchase our construction materials in Ozumba.
The reports from Ozumba and Jorge Alarcon (UMVIM Coordinator) tell us the van made the long (1900 miles!!!) trip back with relatively few issues. Covenant UMC donated a 1994 Ford 15 passenger van to be used in Mexico for UMVIM work in late May. St. Matthew, Buncombe Street and sister churches in the Mississippi conference donated gas money, service & repairs to the van, clothing and tools to get the van back to Mexico City and for upcoming projects. Thank you to everyone who helped!!!

I'm so thankful that you all are safely in Mexico! My family and I are praying for the team and I hope everyone has a great week. I know that the Lord will bless each of you for all of your time and hard work.
Nathan- I'm thinking about you and I'm so proud of you for all that you're doing there! I love you and miss you. Only 7 more days!
I can't wait to read more, and see more pictures, of the great things you all are doing.
Love, Amanda Little
Hello Alexis short for now as trying this out and Chloe is driving me crazy....Praying for you and each team member to glorify God in all you do. Love, Mom and Dad
Hey ma and pa look, I figured it out on a computer with spanish directions! We´re having a blast. Lots of new foods, people, places, challenges, and experiences. Apparently 8 classes of spanish don´t teach you a whole ton. I guess we´re rushin on out of here so I need to follow the rules and stay with the group on a rainy dark night...just wanted to thank everyone for all of the prayers and well wishes. They´re working! And thank you, Aunt Sonia, for the message. We were sitting around the table last night when our leader was reading them to us and I didn´t expect to have any much less two from my family. Love you all.
Hello Alexis,
Just got our internet back in operation, down since Sunday. Wrote you a long email to you address so hope you can get it tonight. Loved hearing from you and can't wait to see all your pictures and the stories that will go with them. No more dog stories though...Love you and continue to send prayers your way...I have some interesting historical info from history channel that was just on yesterday about the "pyramid" you're going to see, how it was discovered, when, etc related to WWI and spying for German submarines...figure those connections...pretty wild! Chloe and Dad say "hello"....Chloe has started snuggling with Dad in your absence! Love, Mom
Osumba Team,
Continue to keep you and your new friends in Christ in our prayers. So sorry to hear about Jorge's wife's car being stolen and thankful she was not harmed physically. Praying for their emotional healing and hopefully replacement or finding of car, if that is possible. Wonderful to hear about Christ love surrounding you all and pray that it will be carried on with youfor a long time after you leave and return back to your "normal routines" at home. "Hello Alexis, we love you...Mom, Dad, Chloe even Gus and Tramp and of course Trevor and Brenda were over reading your emails last night. We'll be setting up a dinner, show and tell night with your pictures when you return so get ready to tell us some stories.....
